What CLA has for you this term?
First up: Thinking of applying for co-op? Or ready to graduate? This series might be for you!
In conjunction with the Ontario Library Association, the CLA-UWO Student Chapter would like to announce a special, two part Academic Library Career Workshop. The first session is "Getting Ready", it will cover how to read academic job postings, how to research positions, write a resume/curriculum vitae (C.V.), compose a cover letter and prepare for interviews. To guide you through this process, we welcome Jim Brett from the University of Guelph. Jim is the Information Resources Librarian at the U of G and the Career Development Co-ordinator for OLA.
When & Where: "Getting Ready" is on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 12-1:15pm in Rm 295 North Campus Building.
Part 2: "Mock Interviews"
Looking to sharpen your interview skills? Want some practice before co-op interviews? Or just looking for feedback on your resume? Mock Interview might be for you!
Participants will be interviewed by professional academic librarians who will provide immediate feedback and offer helpful suggestions. This is a friendly, no risk environment and a great way to prepare for the real thing!
Students who would like to participate must pre-register.
To register, email Leigh-Ann Cerka at lcerka@uwo.ca. Please indicate your preferred one hour time slot between 10am-12pm or 1pm-4pm. Please include your expected graduation date.
Preference will be given to those who graduate at the end of this term. Students will be given a "mock" job ad and asked to prepare a cover letter and resume/c.v. The deadline for cover letter and resume/c.v is Wednesday, October 6 as they will be distributed to the OLA professionals for review prior to your scheduled interview.
Where & When? Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 10-4 in Rooms 271 and 280 (the GRC room with the door facing the hall) North Campus Building
This is an excellent opportunity to practice. And, it is brought to you FREE of charge from your CLA-UWO Student Chapter friends!
