UWO CLA Summer 2011

Welcome to the University of Western Ontario (UWO) Canadian Library Association (CLA) Student Chapter website!

The UWO CLA Student Chapter strives to create opportunities for professional development by hosting guest speakers, networking events, and library tours, organizing peer and professional mentorship programs, encouraging leadership and adding some fun with social events.

Enthusiastic new members are always welcome at our weekly meetings on Mondays in NCB 266 from 12:15-1:15pm.

Please be sure to check back often for information on events, guest speakers, fundraisers, and more.

At UWO-CLA we help library students make the right connections to help them enter the job market with ease and confidence.

We offer great opportunities to network, like the  Mentorship program where we pair you up with a professional in the field to facilitate knowledge exchange and provide guidance to current students entering the profession.

Each semester, we also organize the Networking Event which allows MLIS students to meet with library professionals who are currently working in the filed.  This event, which is fashioned similar to speed dating, allows 3 to 4 students to sit with a library professional for fifteen minutes, while they describe their job and answer questions from the students. When the time up, the students rotate to the next table to listen to a different professional.  In this way, each student gets a chance to interact one on one with each of the guests.

In addition, each term we also invite a special guest speaker, such as a head librarian at an academic or public library to speak about their experiences in the library profession.

Other great services that CLA offers are library tours and fun, social events such as welcoming event at the beginning of the term as well as an end of term party.

In addition we even offer mock interviews to help students prepare for co-op and real job interviews.

These are just a handful of services offered by CLA to Western Library students.

What is best about the CLA is that it is a 100% student organized group, so you have the opportunity to be a pivotal part of this incredible group.

Make your voice heard through CLA!

Join us for one of our meetings!  You may want to sign up for a CLA executive position or be an active member or simply participate in one of our events.
