MENTORSHIP

The CLA Student Chapter at the University of Western Ontario successfully launched its Mentorship Program in September 2005 and continues to grow. The program has received very positive feedback from both students and professionals, and we thank all those who have dedicated their time and support!
The program pairs Librarians and Information Professionals in the field with students in the MLIS program. The Mentorship Program's goals are to facilitate knowledge exchange between the Mentor and Mentee and to provide guidance to current students entering the profession.

MISSION

To connect Library and Information Science students with practicing library or information professionals, thereby facilitating the exchange of knowledge, wisdom, experience and support between mentors and mentees and throughout the profession.

VISION

To become a permanent and fundamental component of the Masters’ of Library and Information Science (MLIS) student experience at the University of Western Ontario. The program enhances student experience through the facilitation of networking opportunities that ultimately ease student transition into practice. To achieve this goal, the program will increase awareness of the professional mentorship program in the field, thereby increasing the pool of mentors in various areas of specialization and geographic locations to reflect the varied interests of MLIS students.

BE A PART OF THE PROGRAM

Librarians or Information Professionals who desire to provide support and coaching for interested students, should contact the Mentorship Program Committee at westernmentorship (at) gmail.com to register or for further information and program guidelines. The time commitment is not substantial, and Mentor guidance to MLIS students proves an invaluable resource to the professional development of these students entering the workforce.
