Today marked the kick-off of our fundraising campaign for London Public Library's A Book for Every Child initiative, which gives books to children and youth in need across the city. Today's Halloween bake sale brought in $85.50, with all proceeds going to A Book for Every Child. Be sure to stay tuned for more fundraising initiatives as we work towards our goal of $500!

Check out our display across the hall from the GRC - every $10 we raise puts another book on the bookshelf!

CLA Supports Western Librarians and Archivists

In September 2011, the librarians and archivists at the University of Western Ontario were on strike.  The UWO Student Chapter of CLA issued the following statement of support shortly after a tentative agreement was reached:

From the CLA Mission Statement: "CLA/ACB is my advocate and public voice, educator and network. We build the Canadian library and information community and advance its information professionals."
In our role as advocates for information professionals, we feel it is our responsibility to support our colleagues in this profession as they seek respect and acknowledgement of the vital contribution they make to the university community. The recent strike by UWO's librarians and archivists is in a local context, but its outcome effects everyone in the information field.  There is no library without librarians; there is no archive without archivists. In our view, expressing our support for the librarians and archivists is expressing our support of the library and archives as a whole because they are an integral part of a team of employees that make these institutions function.  We are very pleased that a tentative agreement has been reached between both parties in this dispute.
